About Brandon Jackson

“If I create from the heart, nearly everything works; if from the head, almost nothing.”  - Marc Chagall

Living as an artist, for Brandon Jackson, means being both of the world and apart from it.

After studying furniture design at Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), Jackson gained experience in the field and developed a focus on sustainable sourcing. But he felt drawn to expand his furniture-making work to include another more direct, personal medium. Eventually, this yearning let him to pursue abstract painting full time.

Jackson sees his mission in abstract painting as focusing his attention on specific moments in time, recording them as an emotional representation on the canvas. He is interested in the reactions of viewers, particularly their visceral responses. Whatever interpretation the viewer sees is important. And if they don’t experience a particular emotion in front of a work—that is also important, and a success, from his point of view.

When he’s not painting, Jackson can be found taking long walks with his dog, vibing to good tunes, or embarking on elaborate culinary adventures. Aside from his own personal experience, and the endless daily work of paying attention, Jackson cites the contemporary German visual artist Gerhard Richter as one of his main influences.
